UBER ACCOUNT GUIDE

How to enable 2FA on Uber

Uber lets rider accounts use a security app for two-step verification. These generated codes work without mobile reception, which can be useful while traveling.

Open Uber’s security settings

  1. Sign in and open your Uber account management settings.
  2. Choose Security → 2-step verification.
  3. Select the security-app method and follow the enrollment prompts.

Add Uber to Sign In

Use Sign In, our authenticator app, to generate the codes on your iPhone.

If Uber displays a QR code on another screen, open Add → Scan QR Code in Sign In. If Uber provides a secret key, use Add → Enter Setup Key instead. Label Service as Uber and Account with your email, then paste the secret into Key.

Review the entry and tap Add Account. Return to Uber and enter the current code to complete enrollment. Keep the setup key private.

Save backup codes

Store Uber’s backup codes somewhere secure outside your phone. Each works once. At the verification screen, choose an alternative method, then Use backup code.

If you have no usable codes or other access, contact Uber Support through its sign-in help.

Text-message verification

Uber also supports SMS. Keep the registered number current; texts may fail when roaming, without reception, or after opting out of Uber messages. Generated authenticator codes do not depend on SMS delivery.

If a code does not work

Make sure the Uber entry in Sign In matches the account you are using. Wait for a fresh code, then enter it before it changes. If fresh codes keep failing, check that your iPhone uses automatic date and time.

Keep a working sign-in session and your recovery information available while resolving the problem. Adding an entry to Sign In does not finish enrollment: the service must accept a code and confirm activation.
