PLAYSTATION NETWORK ACCOUNT GUIDE

How to enable 2FA on PlayStation Network

PlayStation lets you use an authenticator app for two-step verification. You can enroll in a browser or from a PS5 or PS4, then keep the verification codes in Sign In on your iPhone.

Find PlayStation’s two-step settings

In a browser, sign in to Account Management → Security and choose Edit beside 2-step Verification Status.

On PS5, open Settings → Users and Accounts → Security → 2-Step Verification. On PS4, use Settings → Account Management → Account Information → Security → 2-Step Verification.

Select Authenticator App.

Add PlayStation to Sign In

You can use Sign In, our authenticator app for codes on your iPhone.

  1. With the setup QR code on another screen, open Sign In and tap Add → Scan QR Code.
  2. Scan the code, review the account details, and tap Add Account.
  3. Enter the current verification code on PlayStation, choose Activate, and record your backup codes.

PlayStation supplies an alphanumeric setup key if you cannot scan the QR code. Use it when setting up on the same iPhone. In Sign In, choose Add → Enter Setup Key, set Service to PlayStation and Account to your account name, paste the secret into Key, then tap Add Account. Keep this key private.

Keep a copy of your backup codes

Save the ten single-use codes somewhere secure outside your phone. While signed in, find them under Account Management → Security → Backup Codes. You cannot retrieve them there after you are locked out.

Recover access without your phone

At verification, choose Trouble Receiving Code? → Sign In Using a Backup Code. If you have no usable codes, use PlayStation Support’s Online Assistant for account recovery.

Text messages and passkeys

SMS is another two-step verification method. PlayStation also offers passkey sign-in on supported devices. Review the service’s instructions when changing methods, and retain your existing access until the replacement works.

If a code does not work

Make sure the PlayStation entry in Sign In matches the account you are using. Wait for a fresh code, then enter it before it changes. If fresh codes keep failing, check that your iPhone uses automatic date and time.

Keep a working sign-in session and your recovery information available while resolving the problem. Adding an entry to Sign In does not finish enrollment: the service must accept a code and confirm activation.
