COINBASE ACCOUNT GUIDE

How to enable 2FA on Coinbase

Coinbase supports standard authenticator codes for two-step verification. Set up an additional method before you need it so losing access to your phone does not leave you without a way to verify.

Find Coinbase’s verification methods

  1. Sign in to Coinbase in a web browser.
  2. Open the 2-step verification settings page.
  3. Under Available methods, select Set up beside Authenticator app.

Add Coinbase to Sign In

Use Sign In, our authenticator app, for codes on your iPhone.

  1. If the service displays an enrollment QR code on another screen, open Sign In and tap Add → Scan QR Code.
  2. If it offers a setup key instead, choose Add → Enter Setup Key. Label Service as Coinbase and Account with your account name, then paste the secret into Key.
  3. Review the entry and tap Add Account.
  4. Enter the current code back on Coinbase to verify the enrollment, then complete the remaining prompts.

Keep the setup key private. If you only have one iPhone and no manual key is offered, open the enrollment page on a second screen.

Set up another available method

Coinbase supports security keys, passkeys, mobile push approvals, and SMS. Hardware security keys and passkeys offer protection against phishing that typed codes cannot provide. SMS depends on access to your phone number.

Trusted contacts can help with account recovery if configured in advance; they do not approve ordinary two-step verification requests.

If your authenticator is unavailable

Select Try another way and use a method already configured. If none works, follow Coinbase’s official account-recovery process. It may require identity verification and impose temporary restrictions; follow the timing and next steps shown for your account.

If still signed in, look under the two-step settings for Lost access to your 2-step verification?. Keep the remaining session while reviewing your options.

If a code does not work

Make sure the Coinbase entry in Sign In matches the account you are using. Wait for a fresh code, then enter it before it changes. If fresh codes keep failing, check that your iPhone uses automatic date and time.

Keep a working sign-in session and your recovery information available while resolving the problem. Adding an entry to Sign In does not finish enrollment: the service must accept a code and confirm activation.
