NAMECHEAP ACCOUNT GUIDE

How to enable 2FA on Namecheap

Protect the Namecheap account that controls your domains and hosting with time-based verification codes. The setup displays backup codes before the authenticator QR code, so save them as you go.

Choose the TOTP method

  1. Open Profile → Security → Access → Two-Factor Authentication.
  2. Choose Enable or Manage, then select Authentication app (TOTP).
  3. Confirm your password.
  4. Save the backup codes securely outside your phone, then choose Next.

Add Namecheap to Sign In

You can use Sign In, our authenticator app for codes on your iPhone.

  1. With the setup QR code on another screen, open Sign In and tap Add → Scan QR Code.
  2. Scan the code, review the account details, and tap Add Account.
  3. Enter the current six-digit code in Namecheap and choose Next to complete setup.

Choose enter this text code on Namecheap to reveal its manual setup key. In Sign In, choose Add → Enter Setup Key, set Service to Namecheap and Account to your account name, paste the secret into Key, then tap Add Account. Keep this key private.

Use and replace backup codes

Backup codes start working only after enrollment finishes. Each can be used once. At sign-in, choose Want to use a Backup Code? if your authenticator is unavailable.

The security settings let you view or regenerate backup codes after password confirmation. A replacement set invalidates the earlier set. Regenerating the QR code also replaces backup codes and signs you out on all devices.

Contact Namecheap Support if no usable code remains.

Device authentication

Namecheap also offers device authentication using a compatible physical key or built-in device authentication. Only one 2FA method can be active at a time, so review the change before replacing TOTP.

If a code does not work

Make sure the Namecheap entry in Sign In matches the account you are using. Wait for a fresh code, then enter it before it changes. If fresh codes keep failing, check that your iPhone uses automatic date and time.

Keep a working sign-in session and your recovery information available while resolving the problem. Adding an entry to Sign In does not finish enrollment: the service must accept a code and confirm activation.
