Choose authenticator verification
- Sign in to Gemini using its official website.
- Open your account security settings and choose the authenticator-app method.
- Follow the enrollment prompts to display the QR code or setup key.
Gemini’s help confirms the method but does not specify every current menu label. If the option differs for your account, use the official help linked below.
Add Gemini to Sign In
You can use Sign In, our authenticator app for codes on your iPhone.
- With the setup QR code on another screen, open Sign In and tap Add → Scan QR Code.
- Scan the code, review the account details, and tap Add Account.
- Enter the current six-digit code in Gemini to confirm enrollment. Check that the method is active.
Gemini documents both QR-code and setup-key enrollment. In Sign In, choose Add → Enter Setup Key, set Service to Gemini and Account to your account name, paste the secret into Key, then tap Add Account. Keep this key private.
Prepare before changing phones
Keep your existing device and sign-in access until a replacement is working. If you cannot restore the authenticator entry, change the method while you can still verify on the old device.
If you have already lost access, contact Gemini Support for account recovery. Do not assume Gemini provides printable backup codes for this method.
Passkeys and security keys
Gemini also supports passkeys and compatible hardware security keys. These provide another way to verify your account. Review Gemini’s current requirements before changing methods; 2FA itself cannot be turned off.
If a code does not work
Make sure the Gemini entry in Sign In matches the account you are using. Wait for a fresh code, then enter it before it changes. If fresh codes keep failing, check that your iPhone uses automatic date and time.
Keep a working sign-in session and your recovery information available while resolving the problem. Adding an entry to Sign In does not finish enrollment: the service must accept a code and confirm activation.
