Open Tumblr’s security settings
On the web, open Settings → Security, turn on Two-factor Authentication, and enter your password.
In the mobile app, tap your account icon, then the gear. Open General settings on iOS or Account settings on Android, then Security. Follow the enrollment prompts.
Add Tumblr to Sign In
Use Sign In, our authenticator app, for codes on your iPhone.
- If the service displays an enrollment QR code on another screen, open Sign In and tap Add → Scan QR Code.
- If it offers a setup key instead, choose Add → Enter Setup Key. Label Service as Tumblr and Account with your account name, then paste the secret into Key.
- Review the entry and tap Add Account.
- Enter the current code back on Tumblr and complete setup.
Keep the setup key private. If you only have one iPhone and no manual key is offered, open the enrollment page on a second screen.
Generate your backup codes
- On the web, return to Settings → Security → Generate backup codes.
- Enter your password and select Check Password.
- Copy or print the ten codes and store them securely outside your phone.
In the app, use Security → Generate new backup codes and confirm your password.
If your authenticator is unavailable
Use a saved backup code in place of the verification code. If you cannot access either, contact Tumblr Support using its Account access category. Keep any existing sign-in session available while you seek help.
If a code does not work
Make sure the Tumblr entry in Sign In matches the account you are using. Wait for a fresh code, then enter it before it changes. If fresh codes keep failing, check that your iPhone uses automatic date and time.
Keep a working sign-in session and your recovery information available while resolving the problem. Adding an entry to Sign In does not finish enrollment: the service must accept a code and confirm activation.
