STRIPE ACCOUNT GUIDE

How to enable 2FA on Stripe

Add two-step authentication to the account you use for the Stripe Dashboard. Set up a fallback while you still have access, especially if your team requires a second factor.

Add an authentication method

  1. Sign in to the Stripe Dashboard and open Personal details.
  2. Under Two-step authentication, select Add authentication method.
  3. Choose Use an authenticator app.

Add Stripe to Sign In

You can use Sign In, our authenticator app for codes on your iPhone.

  1. With the setup QR code on another screen, open Sign In and tap Add → Scan QR Code.
  2. Scan the code, review the account details, and tap Add Account.
  3. Enter the current code from Sign In in Stripe and finish confirmation. Save the backup code Stripe provides.

Stripe offers Enter code manually if you cannot scan the QR code. In Sign In, choose Add → Enter Setup Key, set Service to Stripe and Account to your account name, paste the secret into Key, then tap Add Account. Keep this key private.

Save the backup code

Stripe provides a backup code when you first enable two-step authentication. Keep it securely outside your phone; someone with this code and your password could access your account.

If you lose it while you can still sign in, generate a replacement in the two-step settings. The earlier code stops working. When locked out, use another configured method or follow Stripe’s official account-recovery instructions.

Add another method

Stripe supports passkeys, security keys, device biometrics, and SMS. It recommends multiple methods and favors stronger options over SMS. Team administrators can require two-step authentication through team settings.

If a code does not work

Make sure the Stripe entry in Sign In matches the account you are using. Wait for a fresh code, then enter it before it changes. If fresh codes keep failing, check that your iPhone uses automatic date and time.

Keep a working sign-in session and your recovery information available while resolving the problem. Adding an entry to Sign In does not finish enrollment: the service must accept a code and confirm activation.
