Open Reddit’s account settings
- Sign in to Reddit on a computer. Open your username menu, then Settings.
- Find Account authorization → Two-factor authentication.
- Enter your password and confirm to begin enrollment.
On old Reddit, the setting is under preferences → password/email → two-factor authentication.
Add Reddit to Sign In
You can use Sign In, our authenticator app for codes on your iPhone.
- With the setup QR code on another screen, open Sign In and tap Add → Scan QR Code.
- Scan the code, review the account details, and tap Add Account.
- Return to Reddit, enter the current code from Sign In, and finish its confirmation prompts.
If the service offers a setup key, you can enter it manually. Otherwise, use a second screen for the QR code. In Sign In, choose Add → Enter Setup Key, set Service to Reddit and Account to your account name, paste the secret into Key, then tap Add Account. Keep this key private.
Save your backup codes
In Settings → Account authorization, choose Access your backup codes and confirm your password. Store the ten single-use codes somewhere you can access without your phone. Generating a new set replaces the old set.
If you cannot access your codes
Use an unused backup code at the verification prompt. If you are still signed in elsewhere, check whether you can retrieve backup codes from that session. Do not sign out of your remaining session while troubleshooting.
Follow Reddit’s linked recovery guidance if neither option works. A password reset alone does not replace your second factor.
If a code does not work
Make sure the Reddit entry in Sign In matches the account you are using. Wait for a fresh code, then enter it before it changes. If fresh codes keep failing, check that your iPhone uses automatic date and time.
Keep a working sign-in session and your recovery information available while resolving the problem. Adding an entry to Sign In does not finish enrollment: the service must accept a code and confirm activation.
