EVERNOTE ACCOUNT GUIDE

How to enable 2FA on Evernote

Evernote supports standard authenticator codes for two-step verification. SMS verification is no longer supported, so save recovery codes before you need them.

Enable two-step verification

  1. Sign in to Evernote’s account settings on the web.
  2. Open Account Security and select Enable beside Two-Step Verification.
  3. Verify your email address and continue to authenticator setup.

Add Evernote to Sign In

You can use Sign In, our authenticator app for codes on your iPhone.

  1. With the setup QR code on another screen, open Sign In and tap Add → Scan QR Code.
  2. Scan the code, review the account details, and tap Add Account.
  3. Enter the current code on Evernote and continue to the backup-code step.

If the service offers a setup key, you can enter it manually. Otherwise, use a second screen for the QR code. In Sign In, choose Add → Enter Setup Key, set Service to Evernote and Account to your account name, paste the secret into Key, then tap Add Account. Keep this key private.

Save codes outside Evernote

Copy or print the backup codes. Evernote asks you to paste one into the next setup window; that code remains usable afterward. For later sign-ins, each backup code works once.

Keep these codes outside both your phone and your Evernote account. A note you cannot open while locked out is not a useful recovery copy.

To generate a replacement set, open Account Security → Manage beside two-step verification, then Manage settings → View backup codes → Generate backup codes.

If you cannot generate a code

Choose I need help getting a verification code → Use a back-up code. If you are still signed in elsewhere, keep that session and follow Evernote’s linked instructions for resetting your enrollment. A previously connected Google or Apple sign-in may also provide access.

If those routes fail, use Evernote’s official support process. It may require ownership evidence; recovery is not guaranteed.

If a code does not work

Make sure the Evernote entry in Sign In matches the account you are using. Wait for a fresh code, then enter it before it changes. If fresh codes keep failing, check that your iPhone uses automatic date and time.

Keep a working sign-in session and your recovery information available while resolving the problem. Adding an entry to Sign In does not finish enrollment: the service must accept a code and confirm activation.
